Capitalism is a deeply flawed system

Here are some facts regarding the economic system in which our businesses operate:

Compared to other economic systems of the 20th century [communism, socialism, dictatorship or theocracy] free market capitalism has been the catalyst for massive growth and prosperity in Western nations.

With its focus on free enterprise, entrepreneurialism and private ownership of resources, there was no better system to get us to where we are as a wealthy, first-world nation in just a couple of hundred years.

Karl Marx declared, ‘my objective in life is to dethrone God and destroy capitalism’ – and, of course, the socialists on ‘the left’ have the same goal…ah la Venezuela!

Yet buried within the capitalist system, there are seeds of destruction.

Here is what others have said about capitalism:

Martin Luther King, Jr – “Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience, and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level. That’s the way the system works. And since we know that the system will not change the rules, we are going to have to change the system”

John Maynard Keynes – “Capitalism is the astounding belief that the wickedest of men will do the wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone”

John Kenneth Galbraith“Under capitalism, man exploits man. Under communism, it’s just the opposite”

W.E.B. du Bois – “Capitalism cannot reform itself; it is doomed to self-destruction”

Winston Churchill“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries”

It’s now 2018; I believe capitalist systems the world over have progressed to the ‘extreme’ stage…and fast approaching their ‘use-by’ date!

Extreme capitalism basically screws people; it treats them as commodities; they are there to be used; they don’t matter to those higher up the “unequal sharing of blessings” ladder so long as they keep buying; the only thing that matters is money.

GOOD NEWS: I encourage you, as a business owner, to learn and understand what’s really going on; then envision a better way to do business; then implement it.

I have a name for this better way – the Marketing Spirit.

It can be spelt this way too – O.P.P.O.R.T.U.N.I.T.Y.

It’s not rocket science. It is based on a few of key principles – truth matters; people matter; serving is the key; money is just the score as to how well you did.

Stay tuned…it will be my privilege to share this stuff with you.
